Why is it important to buy/eat locally grown foods?
- Buying and eating foods purchased at local farms, farmers markets, and farm stands is healthy and fresh, and you also have the opportunity to meet and speak with the farmer about his/her farming practices so you will know exactly how your food was grown.
- Buying and eating local supports our business and farm owners and keeps your dollars circulating in your own community, thus strengthening our local economy.
- When you buy food from local farmers, the food travels a much shorter distance from farm to fork. This benefits the environment by promoting cleaner air and water by reducing the carbon footprint necessary to transport the food.
