The Montgomery County Office of Agriculture, in partnership with the Maryland Environmental Service (MES) and Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), is proud to offer a program to help food producing farmers improve soil quality on their farms by delivering one 40 cu yd load of Leafgro organic compost annually. This assistance is provided on a first come, first served basis and is dependent upon the availability of funding. To qualify for this program, the requestor must meet the following criteria:

  • be an agricultural for-profit table food production business in good standing with the state, if registered;
  • if not registered, have a federal Employee Identification Number (EIN) or Farm Service Agency (FSA) number: AND
  • be operating on property that is agriculturally assessed;
  • have a current nutrient management plan.
Note: this program is not available to landscape contractors.

Farmers requesting this assistance must make sure that the farm delivery location is easily accessible to a 40 cu yd dump truck (pictured) to enter the farm and maneuver.

To request participation in this program, please email the request with the following information to Jacqueline.Arnold@montgomerycountymd.gov:

  1. Farm Name
  2. Farmer/Contact Name
  3. Contact Phone Number
  4. Farm Address where soil amendment will be delivered
  5. Any specific instructions that may be applicable

Assistance is not guaranteed, but the Office of Agriculture makes every effort to accommodate as many requests as its budget allows.
