Lakshmi Darbha

Lakshmi Darbha is a scientist by profession and currently works at a Maryland-based vaccine manufacturing company. In the past she has worked at the National Institutes of Health and has a background in chemistry and vaccine industry.
She is the founder of the Maryland based non-profit organization, Aavanee, that focuses on women empowerment, senior networking, and STEM education for kids. She is passionate about the Women’s program, CaRe (Career Restart), inspired her personal life, through programs such as free workforce training, internships and employment assistance (through active collaborations). With support from a strong group of supporters and volunteers, the team Aavanee, helps victims of violence by providing support, local resources and a path to self-sufficiency. She shares her interest in Science with children promoting STEM learning using practical methods.
Lakshmi has served as a Commissioner at the County Commission for Women (2017-2023) and as a board member of the AACF (Asian American Center of Frederick), UNESCO BMW (Body Mind Wellness) and NCAIA (National Council of Asian Indian Association).
In her spare time, she coaches students on science projects, serves on scholarship committees and judges Science fair competitions while promoting women empowerment. She hopes to see improvement in financial stability for women through empowerment programs and legislation.
