Mital Gajjar
Mital Gajjar is an early childhood educator, who is very passionate about advocating for women's rights, children's rights to high-quality education, disability inclusion, and DEI. Mital was first diagnosed with bilateral hearing loss at the age of 5 and started an on campus Rutgers Empowering Disabilities (RED) organization as an undergraduate student at Rutgers University. Although the group is now non-existing, she continues her advocacy work at her alma mater by being part of the committee for Disability Awareness Month. She received her Bachelor's in Exercise Science and Sports Studies with a double minor in Biological Sciences and South Asian Studies. She currently teaches young children and mentors students in elementary school to college for over 15 years. She also advocates for disability by working with the population throughout her career, started an online group for occupational therapists with disabilities, and understands the struggle of multiple identities through being the first disabled child of an immigrant family from a minority group. She is fully aware of the stigma surrounding disability and mental health and has and will continue to fight hard for social justice for the future generations to come. Mital also works part time at the Central Y to promote health and wellness and youth development within the local community.
In her free time, Mital enjoys traveling to new places and learning new things. She has been working hard on maintaining her certifications and catching up on new scholarly trends in ECE. She also enjoys reading, drawing, and painting scenic artwork, and trying out new recipes.
Mital is a native of New Jersey before moving to Maryland.
