Rockville - - - County Executive Isiah Leggett and Fire Chief Richard Bowers will recognize several “Everyday Heroes” in a brief ceremony in Rockville. Several individuals will come together to be recognized for their collective ‘life-saving’ action(s) that have occurred recently throughout the County at various emergencies.
Incidents include a contractor conducting an inspection at an extended stay hotel who heard the fire alarm sounding and quickly extinguished a fire in a unit and rescued the elderly couple who were unable to escape; the quick action of a Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission employee who noticed a house on fire and quickly alerted the occupants to the fast-growing fire and assisted them to safety; and a 16-year-old Churchill High School student who was refereeing games at a local soccer tournament when the senior referee collapsed in the middle of the field during a game. The high school student raced to the aid of the game official and, with the help of several bystanders, began life-saving CPR until paramedics arrived. Local officials from MedStar Montgomery, the receiving hospital, will also be on hand for this special recognition.
