Fatal Fire in Silver Spring
Montgomery County, MD - - Montgomery County Fire and Rescue is on the scene of a fatal fire that occurred this afternoon in Silver Spring, Maryland.
Montgomery County was dispatched about 12:20 this afternoon for the report of a structure fire in the 15700 block of Interlachen Drive in Silver Spring. This is a residential high-rise building located in the Leisure World Community. Units arrived on the scene with fire showing from the ninth floor. Additional units were requested and ultimately a precautionary 2nd alarm was dispatched.
The fire was quickly extinguished and Montgomery County Fire investigators are currently on the scene to determine the origin and cause and are working with Montgomery County Police on the death investigation. Over 75 firefighters were on the scene at the height of firefighting operations and there are no reports of injuries to firefighters.
