Early Morning Two-Alarm Fire in Germantown

Investigation Underway to Determine Cause

Montgomery County, MD- - Montgomery County Fire and Rescue units were dispatched about 12:30 a.m. for the report of an apartment fire on Pickering Court in Germantown, Maryland. Units arrived on the scene of a three-story, garden style apartment complex with heavy smoke and fire conditions and fire reported through the roof of the building. Additional units and resources were requested including the dispatch of a second alarm.

The fire severely damaged six apartments and over twenty occupants were displaced. The American Red Cross assisted families affected by the fire. Fire Investigators were called the scene and currently list the cause of the fire as undetermined. The fire remains under investigation. Damage estimates are $250,000 to the structure and $50,000 to contents.

There were no civilian injuries, one firefighter was transported with minor injuries and has been treated and released and one dog is reported to have perished in the fire. At the height of firefighting operations, over 75 firefighters were on the scene and units ultimately cleared shortly after 6 a.m.
