Jacob Newman - Director

Jacob Newman is the Director of the Silver Spring Regional Office for Montgomery County, a position he has held since 2021. In this capacity, Jacob serves as a key liaison between County Government and the businesses, residents, and visitors of the Silver Spring region. He advises the County Executive and Council on policies affecting a diverse range of stakeholders, with a focus on economic development, land use, workforce development, transportation, public safety, youth development, and health and wellness.

Jacob oversees the Silver Spring Urban District in downtown Silver Spring, managing services provided by the Marketing, Clean, and Safe Teams, as well as the State-designated Arts and Entertainment District. He is also responsible for the oversight of the Silver Spring Citizens Advisory Board and the Silver Spring Urban District Advisory Committee. Known for his community-centered approach, Jacob strives to engage with residents and stakeholders by meeting them "where they’re at."

Before his appointment to the Silver Spring Regional Office, Jacob spent nearly 20 years in the nonprofit sector. Locally, he was the Managing Director of the Latin American Youth Center/Maryland Multicultural Youth Centers in Montgomery County. In this role, he managed a portfolio of Positive Youth Development programs addressing housing, workforce development, education, and the wraparound social needs of the county’s most vulnerable youth and young adults. He served on the Board of Directors for Nonprofit Montgomery and Safe Spring and has presented at several local and national conferences, offering policy guidance to fellow practitioners.

Jacob holds a BA in Political Science from the University of Rhode Island. He is a graduate of Leadership Montgomery CORE and American University’s Key Executive Leadership Program. He lives in Silver Spring with his wife and two children.
