Auxiliary Aids or Services for Persons with Disabilities

Montgomery County is committed to providing programs and services that are accessible to all. The County will provide auxiliary aids or services or program modifications upon request. Persons with disabilities requesting sign language interpreting services, documents in Braille or large print, assistive listening devices or other aids or services should contact the Department sponsoring the program, service or event or the ADA Compliance Team at adacompliance@montgomerycountymd.gov or 240-777-6197 (TTY 240-777-6196) with as much advance notice as possible. This will enable us to ensure adequate time to best meet your needs.

Braille or Large Print

BrailleTo request a document in an alternate format including Braille or large print:
  • For documents in Braille, please allow two weeks for processing.
  • For documents in large print, please allow one week for processing.
  • Documents can be sent by e-mail for users of screen-readers,
  • Please provide, as part of your request: contact information for yourself, what material you need, the name of the event or program you are participating in, and the name and sponsoring department of the event.

Sign Language Interpreting Services

Sign languageThe County will provide sign language interpreter services, including American Sign Language, Pidgin Signed English, Oral Interpreting, Cued Speech, Tactile Interpreting and Certified Deaf interpreting upon request. Requests should be made to the program sponsoring the event or to the ADA Compliance Team at  adacompliance@montgomerycountymd.gov or 240-777-6197 (TTY 240-777-6196) with as much notice as possible (a lead time of 3 business days will help us to engage the most highly qualified interpreters for the job).

CART: Communication Access Real-time Translation - CART is a word-for-word speech to text interpreting service that is effective for both deaf and hard of hearing individuals. It is the instant translation of the spoken word into English text using a stenotype machine, notebook computer, and real-time software. For large meetings, CART can also be set up using a projector and screen. Assistive Listening Systems

Assistive listening symbolAssistive listening devices provide an audio boost, through a headset or a link to a hearing aid, to persons who are hard of hearing. The County has permanent assistive listening systems installed in some County buildings including the Executive Office Building auditorium on the lobby level. Other facilities that currently have permanent assistive listening systems include the Holiday Park and Margaret Schweinhaut Senior Centers, the White Oak and Plum Gar Recreation Centers, the Council Office Building (3rd Floor Hearing Room), the Up-County Regional Service Center, and these libraries: Damascus (Large Meeting Room), Davis (Large Meeting Room), Germantown (Meeting Rooms A and B and the Children’s Programming Room), Marilyn J. Praisner (Large Meeting Room), Quince Orchard (Meeting Room A), and Rockville Memorial (Meeting Rooms 1 and 2 and the Children’s Programming Room).
