Commercial Solar Permit & Inspection Process
Photovoltaic (solar) systems are an alternative way to provide power to a building structure. The solar panels are usually attached to the roof of the building or other commercial structure (such as a garage). They may also be built as a separate structure on the ground (in which case the solar array will be treated as a commercial accessory structure).
Rooftop solar projects require two permits: a building permit (for the attachment of the solar panels) and an electrical permit (for the connection to the building's electrical service). Both permits must be applied for electronically.
A permit is required prior to the installation of a ground-mounted photovoltaic system, or installation or attachment of photovoltaic systems or components to any building or structure.
You will need an electrical permit to complete the project. This permit is issued after the issuance of the related building permit for the project.
Several inspections are required for solar permits. Please refer to our List of Required Inspections for additional information regarding your inspections.
Please also refer to our Electrical Inspection Checklist for detailed information regarding required electrical inspections for your project
