Residential Stand-by generator will be the ONLY scope of work on this permit. If the work is for a new construction, the new service MUST be applied for on a separate permit (See Electrical Permit - With Parent Building Permit - Permit Process page). An electrical permit can be applied for online using DPS ePermits. However, pursuant to the passage of Senate Bill 762 - Maryland Electricians Act, the applicant must have a valid electrical license issued by the Maryland State Board of Master Electricians. They must also set up an Apply Online account by contacting DPS prior to applying to ensure the email address is tied to their Electrical Business License (Accounts do not need to be created by the licensed applicant/user themselves). To begin using ePermits and ePlans, please send a brief email request for a user account to [email protected] if you are properly licensed and have not already done so.
Homeowners are not permitted to apply for residential generators. You must hire a master electrician licensed by the Maryland State Board of Electricians to install a residential generator.
The total fee will be the sum of the processing fee plus the price of the items/work. Please see our fee schedule for specific information concerning the cost of this permit.
Site plans are reviewed within one to two business days of submittal. Upon approval, the electrical permit will be issued by the permit technicians that day.
