Fire Alarm System Permit Permit & Inspection Process
A fire alarm permit is required for all work involving installations, alterations or modifications of a fire alarm system. Permits are required any time that a fire alarm system is affected by any sort of work including repair. Please note that fire protection systems require a separate permit and are not part of the fire alarm system permit. Permits are applied for and submitted electronically using DPS’ eServices.
You may request a free screening on during normal business hours, via email or phone. The screening assesses whether the submittal is complete and conforms to the fire codes (see screening limitations). ePlans may be submitted anytime using DPS's eServices .
Please refer to our fee schedule for information regarding fees associated with this process.
The fire alarm permit turnaround time varies with workload. Our goal is two weeks of processing time for regular system plans. Plans qualifying for our fast-track process should be reviewed within 24 business hours of application and submittal.
Fire alarm plans that are a single floor, less than 20,000 square feet and do not involve the installation or replacement of the main fire alarm control panel qualify for fast track review. The review should occur within 24 business hours of plan submittal. Fast track permits can be applied for at any time. Please view our Fire Alarm Fast Track Policy prior to submitting applications.
