Visitor Information

Notice: Starting July 17, the public entrance to the Council Office Building located on Maryland Avenue under the brown canopy will be temporarily shifted to the building's nearby main entrance under the Council Office Building signage. The building's accessible first floor public entrance will remain open. Learn more.

All visitors are subject to security screening at public entrances and then required to sign in with the receptionist on the 6th Floor.

The Board of Appeals’ (BOA) offices are located in Room 217 of the Council Office Building (COB). The Davidson Memorial Hearing Room is also located on the second floor of the COB, past the BOA Offices on the right.

Monday – Thursday: 7 a.m.-8:30 p.m.
Friday: 7 a.m.-8 p.m.
Saturday/Sunday: 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.

Temporary Third Floor Main Entrance:
Monday – Thursday: 7 a.m.-8:30 p.m.
Friday: 7 a.m.-8 p.m.
Saturday/Sunday: entrance closed

Driving Directions

  1. Take the Falls Rd. Exit 5 on I270, and follow signs towards Rocville Town Center.
  2. Go thru traffic signal and you will be on Maryland Ave.

Public Parking

  • From Maryland Ave., turn right onto E. Jefferson St. (Route 28 East). Entrance to public parking is on the right.
  • For evening public hearings, additional parking is available in the Council Office Building from Monroe St. and Fleet St. entrances.

Metro

  1. Take Metro's Red Line to Rockville Metro Station
  2. Exit station at ROCKVILLE METRO STATION - WESTSIDE
  3. Walk - 13 min - 0.4 miles
    1. Take Metro walkway (crosses over Rt. 355).
    2. Continue straight ahead and proceed 1 block on E. Montgomery Ave. (past Regal Movie Theatre).
    3. Turn left on Maryland Ave & proceed 1 block.
    4. Cross at traffic light on E. Jefferson St. & proceed to Council Office Bldg. entrance with awning (on left).

Public Entrances

There are two public entrances to the Council Office Building:

  1. On E. Jefferson St. - located on the first floor (in the rear of the building near the auditorium and loading zone). Accessible entrance
  1. On Maryland Ave. - located on the third floor under the Council Office Building signage.  Temporary Entrance

Access for People who use Mobility Devices

Using the Sidewalk Outside of the First Floor of the Council Office Building 

  1. The parking garage has an elevator to access the Council Office Building.
  2. Take the elevator to Level C/D.
  3. Exit the elevator and turn right.
  4. Make the next right and follow the railed path.
  5. Continue along the sidewalk until you see automatic glass doors to your left. 
  6. This entrance is located on the first floor of the Council Office Building.
  7. Security will direct you to the elevators inside the building which are located at the end of the hallway after making one additional left turn.  

Drop Off/Pick Up

  1. Make first right into public parking garage at traffic light at Monroe St. intersection (County fueling station).
  2. Make immediate right (before the entrance to visitor parking). Passengers can be discharged at the assigned spot.

Facility Reservations

The auditorium, cafeteria, and certain conference rooms in the Council Office Building may be used by the public and government agencies holding meetings of a civic, cultural or educational nature. Details about available spaces and fees can be found on the Community Use of Public Facilities (CUPF) website. Bookings must be completed at least seven days in advance by calling  ActiveMONTGOMERY.
