The goal of this platform is to provide effective resources for participants looking to find employment and/or tradesmanship opportunities to help build their careers outside of high school and into their adulthood. The value of gaining employment carries both physical and psychological benefits, not to mention a rewarding level of self-sufficiency.

Before accessing the Database of all places to apply, please take the time to make your way through each module provided below so you can go into this process prepared and intentionally.

The “A” category program(s) are highly competitive and require aptitude testing (English, Math, etc.).
The “B” category program(s) are slightly more accessible.

SMART Local 100 (A)
Sheet Metal Apprenticeship

What is it?
A 5-year training program including a combination of 40 hours of on-the-job training and classroom learning once every 2-weeks to build kills “technically and professionally oriented.”
Eligibility:
  • No GED or HS Diploma needed
  • Ability to obtain a driver's license
  • “Ability to get to the selected Vehicles for Change’s location by 7 am Monday through Friday”
Need to Know:
New app. classes start every 3 months.

Local Union 5 (A)
Plumbers and Gasfitters

A 5-year paid training program, with a 5% increase in pay every 6-months. Once graduated, students are able to work as Plumbers in other areas of the country or relocate entirely when employment opportunities arise.
Eligibility:
  • - GED or HS Diploma needed
  • - 17+ when applying, 18+ when starting.
  • - Pass entrance exam**

Applications for the 2025-2026 school year are being accepted on-line only.
All required documents must be on file to receive an exam date.

Youth Build (B)
Rockville Housing Enterprises Program (RHE)

**Clients Service hours are Monday to Friday from 9 am to 4 pm. RHE encourages clients schedule appointments to meet with their caseworkers.
What is it?
A workforce/career preparation program that engages young people who face barriers for employment and provides aid in their development towards self-sufficiency through learning construction trades while obtaining their GED—During the 3-year term grant, RHE will work with 65 participants to graduate, secure employment, and complete the program with their Multi-Core Craft Curriculum (MC3), OSHA 30, CPR Certification, along with their GED.
Eligibility:(
  • Between 16 - 24 years old
  • Dropped out of Highschool
  • Must be one of the following:
    • Current/former foster youth
    • Youth/adult offender
    • Youth w/ a disability
    • Migrant youth
    • Child of an incarcerated parent
    • Low-income youth
Need to Know:
  • - Limited spaces for youth who have already have their High School Diploma/GED
  • - Men ages 18 & above are required to register for Selective Service

  • - RHE's team contacts all youth within 1-2 business days for referrals received by 3pm (Referral Form)

JATC (B)
Residential R-Program

What is it?
“...When an individual is accepted into a JATC training program, they sign an agreement and are placed with a signatory contractor of Local Union 26 IBEW...”
To complete the program: :
  1. Complete 10,000 hours of job training to complete the program (~2,000 hours per year)
  2. Fulfill 8 modules
  3. Take 10 classes

*Your pay increases as you move through the program.
**A trainee can be accepted as an apprentice during this process

Need to Know:
  • No GED/diploma required
  • The Courses required in this program are Computer Mediated Learning (CML—online)—so: access to a computer and Wifi is necessary.
  • CML courses are accessible through subscription fee of $150 for 12 months of access to the PTSI system.

Full Circle (B)
Auto Repair & Training Center

What is it?
Employer driven paid internship program for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) training. In completing this program, you moved to find fulltime employment in the Automotive industry.
Eligibility:
  • No GED or HS Diploma needed
  • Ability to obtain a driver's license
  • “Ability to get to the selected Vehicles for Change’s location by 7 am Monday through Friday”
Need to Know:
Starting weekly stipend of $360 – entry-level OR advanced options

Shepard’s Table (B)
Culinary Skills Training Program

What is it?
12-week professional culinary training program (including partnerships with evaluative employment at local restaurants) that works to place students in a 4-week internship that hopefully leads to full-time employment.
To complete the program: :
  • a. Pass each weekly online skills test
  • b. Attend and fulfill the entire program to gain a ServSafe certificate and chef’s starter kit.

*Remember to use a professional email address for the google form (school email works).

14-week hands-on professional culinary training program, helping to hopefully lead to future full-time food-service employment.
