The Carroll Avenue Separated Bike Lanes Project will add a low-stress bikeway to Carroll Avenue between Merrimac Drive and Piney Branch Road (MD 320) in the Takoma/Langley Crossroads area. This facility will help to provide connections for cyclists to the future Purple Line station at Takoma/Langley Transit Center. The exact facility type has not yet been determined.
In of March 2023, MCDOT held a community meeting to gather feedback about the design of the project and to present alternatives. Alternative B was selected as the preferred alternative. As of Fall 2023, the project is at 35% design. MCDOT presented the current design for community feedback at an in-person meeting on December 5, 2023. The meeting recording and presentation materials can be found on the Project Documents tab.
The Carroll Avenue Separated Bike Lanes project is currently funded through 30% design. We expect to complete this process in late 2023.
Initial preliminary alternatives were presented to the community in March 2023 and Alternative B was selected as the preferred option. The selected alternative has been advanced to 35% design and will be presented to the community at an in-person meeting on December 5, 2023.
Funding has been secured to advance the project to final design and that work will occur in 2024. No construction timeline is available yet.
