The Annual Sidewalk Program
Part of Montgomery County’s ongoing Pedestrian Safety Program, the Annual Sidewalk Program provides for the installation of multiple minor sidewalk projects each year that fill missing links in existing sidewalk networks. The program’s major goals are providing safer access for the disabled and improving pedestrian access to schools and nearby public transportation or public facilities.
The Sidewalk Program’s projects originate from resident and association requests. Upon receipt, a rigorous field investigation is performed on each request to determine the feasibility of installing sidewalks via a minor project. Due to budget constraints and the significant number of requests received each year, requested locations are further prioritized to ensure project selection is fair and equitable to all residents. Please see the Sidewalk Program’s Frequently Asked Questions to learn more about how requested sidewalk projects are prioritized.
