Piney Branch Road Separated Bike Facilities


This project is to provide additional pedestrian and bicycle connectivity along Piney Branch Road beyond the immediate vicinity of the future Purple Line Station Area. The project extends along Piney Branch Road (MD320) from Sligo Creek Trail at the western limits to New Hampshire Avenue (MD650) at the east end. The proposed bicycle facility will tie into the Purple Line bikeway project, which extends from Arliss Street to the east side of the University Boulevard (MD 193) intersection.

Project Schedule

The Piney Branch Road Bike Lanes project is currently at the initial concept stage. A hybrid (virtual and in-person) public information meeting was February 7, 2024 to present multiple concepts under consideration. Public comments will influence which concept is selected for advancement to the 35% design milestone. Visit the “Participate” tab of this website to provide your comments via the online comment form.  The deadline to submit comments is March 6, 2024

The Joint Hybrid Public Meeting for the Piney Branch Road Bike Lanes project and the Flower Avenue Separated Bike Lanes project was held on Wednesday, February 7, 2024 to present the project scope, schedule and costs as well as obtain community input and answer questions.
