About Montgomery County Employee Retirement Plans (MCERP)
MCERP is responsible for the administration of over nearly $7.3 billion in assets for approximately 9,500 active employees and 6,500 retirees.
The County offers five different retirement plans. Eligibility for benefits depends on your position, status, date of hire and other relevant criteria.
- Employees’ Retirement System (ERS) – defined benefit plan
- Guaranteed Retirement Income Plan (GRIP) – cash balance plan
- Retirement Savings Plan (RSP) – 401(a) defined contribution plan
- Elected Official Plan (EOP) - defined contribution plan
- Deferred Compensation Plan (DCP) - Tax-deferred 457 plan
The Department (MCERP) is comprised of several groups which handle Investments, Benefit Administration, Compliance, Accounting and Financial Reporting for the retirement plans.
In addition to providing benefits to County employees benefits are provided to Participating Agencies and subdivisions including:
- Montgomery County Revenue Authority,
- Housing Opportunities Commission of Montgomery County,
- Town of Chevy Chase,
- Strathmore Hall Foundation, Inc.,
- Washington Suburban Transit Commission,
- Skypoint Federal Credit Union, and
- certain employees of the State Department of Assessments and Taxation and the District Court of Maryland.
