Psychologists and Therapists Training

Psychologists and Therapists receive training in specialized areas to stay abreast of current developments in the mental health field. Given that the primary therapeutic modality in CIU is Dialectical Behavior Therapy, continued training and practice in this area is required.   Additionally, training to meet licensing requirements is mandatory.

Officer Training

Officers rotating through the Crisis Intervention Unit on a regular basis receive an 8 hour. mental health training that includes, but is not limited to the following areas:

• Awareness of cultural issues when supervising offenders with mental illness or special needs
• Overview of basic mental disorders and co-occurring diagnoses
• Suicide prevention –recognizing signs and symptoms
• Behavioral interventions with mentally ill offenders
