Federal Earned Income Tax Credit

The Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) is a refundable tax credit for people who worked in 2023. The maximum federal credit is $7,430. Eligibility and credit amount depends on your income, family size, and other factors.  Calculate your federal EITC.

Federal EITC Information

Maryland Earned Income Tax Credit

The State of Maryland offers an additional Earned Income Tax Credit for eligible filers. The credit provides a 45% match of the federal EITC for filers claiming dependents and a 100% match of the federal EITC for single filers unable to claim dependents. Eligible ITIN filers may receive this credit.

Montgomery County Working Families Income Supplement

Montgomery County is one of the few local jurisdictions in the country that offers a supplement to the state EITC. The Montgomery County Working Families Income Supplement is a 56% match of the sSate EITC for eligible county residents. To receive this credit, residents must file a Maryland Tax return. Eligible ITIN filers may receive the WFIS.

ITIN Taxpayers 

Those filing with an ITIN are eligible for both the Maryland EITC and the Montgomery County Working Families Income Supplement. All VITA sites serve ITIN taxpayers and can help you receive these valuable credits. The Community Action Agency's VITA program can assist with completing ITIN applications on Wednesdays at the Rockville office. ITIN holders are also eligible for the federal and state Child Tax Credit if their depenents have Social Security Numbers.
