Current Phase: Completed

Construction has been completed and the library was reopened on Monday April 2, 2018. The library is now fully operational and open for use by the public.

The White Oak Library Refresh project started construction on June 27, 2017 after asbestos abatement work was performed. Unforeseen plumbing repairs at the restrooms and increases in the scope of work added time to the schedule. Completion of construction activities took place in March 2018 followed by a re-opening ceremony on April 2, 2018.

The work involved with the Refresh/Refurbishment has included improvement to the exterior and the interior of the building.

Exterior improvements have been done to refurbish sections of concrete pavement and handicap parking at the front and side entrances to the library to bring into conformance with current ADA regulations. A new roof is also being installed.

Interior improvements are being done to improve both the functions within the library and to enhance the appearance within the library. Those interior improvements include, among other items: replacement of all the flooring surfaces within the main library areas (first floor and ground floor), the workroom, staff lounge and offices; total renovation of all public and staff restrooms to make them ADA compliant and to upgrade the fixtures; painting of all the walls of the main library and workroom; replacement of drop ceiling tiles in all areas; rearrangement of shelving and seating within the library; addition of new furniture within the library inclusive of the workroom areas; new shelving in children’s room and other areas; addition of new countertop tables in the workroom; new kitchenets at the staff lounge and at the large meeting room; total upgrade of all the lighting to introduce more efficient and brighter LED lamps; addition of new motorized shades to the windows in the reading/collaboration/quiet rooms; replacement and addition of new service desks and self-checkout desks at the entrance to the main library; installation of new stair railing.

The improvements that result from the refresh at White Oak Library are in conformance with MCPL plan of a 7-year library refresh cycle to all libraries within the MCPL network of libraries in Montgomery County.
