Peter Fosselman - Director
Peter Fosselman has over 30 years of experience in the business, private, and public sectors with an education in Urban Studies and Landscape Design. He was in the first class of fellows with the Rose Center in cooperation with the Urban Land Institute.
Currently, Fosselman is the Director of Regional Services for Montgomery County located in Bethesda. Prior, Pete was the Master Plan Ombudsman for Montgomery County overseeing the implementation of approved plans in the County.
From 2007 to 2016, Pete was the Mayor of Kensington. Elected on a platform to revitalize, Kensington underwent changes to include a new Sector Plan, rejuvenated streetscapes, professional marketing, community events, and the County’s first bio-retention storm drain parking facility. Mayor Fosselman was also elected President of the Maryland Mayors’ Association, serving all 152 Maryland Mayors from 2015 to 2016. In 2012, Fosselman was invited by the U.S. State Department to the Ambassador Ronald H. Brown Forum in Croatia to address his municipal successes in community engagement and economic development.
Before joining the County Administration, Pete was appointed Deputy Secretary of State by Governor Martin O’Malley; and served a short time under Governor Larry Hogan. His post was responsible for the Charity and Legal Divisions with oversight of the Maryland Charity Campaign, prisoner extraditions and requisitions, and the Safe at Home Program, which aids victims of domestic violence and human trafficking.
Preceding his appointment as Deputy Secretary, Pete was a Principal with Rodgers Consulting. Fosselman served as the Project Manager for the award winning Neo-traditional community, the Kentlands in Gaithersburg, MD. In the 1990s, Pete served as the City of Gaithersburg’s Chair for the Olde Towne Community Development Corporation bringing new life to Gaithersburg’s historic downtown.
Pete has served on the advisory boards for the Maryland Democratic Business Council, Future Link, Black Rock Arts Center, and is a founding member of the MoCo Pride Center. Pete lives in Rockville with his husband Duane Rollins and their two dogs, Tupac and Tubman.
