Census 2020: Become a Volunteer 2020 Census Ambassador!
Census Ambassadors are volunteers trained by the Office of Community Partnerships and Census Bureau and will conduct education and outreach by hosting information tables, distributing Census promotional materials and engaging with county residents. Multilingual members of the community are especially encouraged to apply.
Every 10 years, the federal government conducts a population count of everyone in the United States. Why should this matter to all of us living in Montgomery County? Census results help determine how the federal government allocates more than $675 Billion in funding every year and determines how many representatives each state gets in Congress. It is estimated that the county will lose approximately $18,250 for every Marylander not counted in the 2020 Census over 10 years.
How can you help? Get involved by becoming a 2020 Census Ambassador! Help ensure a fair and accurate count of everyone living in Montgomery County. By becoming a Census Ambassador, you will help our communities get their fair share of federal funding for schools, health care, libraries, and social services.
Volunteer 2020 Census Ambassadors will receive an orientation and Census training through the Office of Community Partnerships and the U.S. Census Bureau. Census Ambassadors will be part of a vast network of community representatives that will conduct education and awareness outreach at festivals, fairs and events across the county to make sure everyone in our county is informed of the importance of the 2020 Census.
Census Ambassadors 18 and older may staff information tables independently. Volunteers younger than 18 may participate when supervised by a parent or guardian who has also gone through the Census Ambassador training. SSL hours may only be awarded at locations that are hosting Census info tables/outreach events through SSL designated organizations.
If you are interested in becoming a 2020 Census Ambassador, please submit a 2020 Census Ambassador Volunteer Application below. There are now several Census Ambassador trainings available for those who are interested in joining in on this important effort. Current trainings are scheduled on a weekly basis in locations in Rockville or at the Volunteer Center at the UpCounty Regional Service Center. We are working to add additional locations and dates/times around the county. Check our calendar regularly for a full list of dates/times. Potential volunteers only need to attend one of the trainings.
