The Inmate Services section of the Montgomery County Correctional Facility is pleased to welcome volunteers in supporting our rehabilitative efforts. Volunteers are an integral part of providing important programs, services, and support to individuals in custody. Lowering crime and recidivism rates has always required community involvement; therefore volunteers are absolutely necessary to accomplish the goals of the department. Volunteers giving of themselves can help inmates grow productive members of society through new opportunities to learn and positively engage with others. We welcome citizen involvement from all cultural and socioeconomic segments of the community.
The Montgomery County Correctional Facility provides a variety of programs that directly benefit inmate participants through educational workshops, groups, curriculum programs and enrichment activities. The primary goal of inmate programs is to foster skills and attitudes that will enable inmates to successfully reintegrate into the community upon release. The department provides over a wide range of elective programs in the areas of addiction, education, library services, life skills, mental health, parenting, religion, reentry, recreation, and workforce development. Programs are conducted seven days a week during daytime and evening hours.
Volunteer candidates are initially screened for eligibility and suitability. Volunteers must possess positive attributes as a role model and transferable skills that an inmate can benefit from, and should express a sincere commitment to aid the facility in any area of need. After selection, volunteers receive orientation and annual training. Program effectiveness depends on how well volunteers responsibly engage the inmate population and support to the goals of the facility program mission.
The department provides over 100 elective programs and program tracts for inmates in the areas of education, religious activities, mental health, recreation, and library services. Programs are conducted seven days a week, ten hours per day.
