The Dixon Avenue Separated Bike Lanes project will add a pair of one-way separated bike lanes to Dixon Avenue from Wayne Avenue to Ripley Street. A separated bike lane is a bike lane that is separated from traffic by a horizontal and vertical buffer. Along Dixon Avenue, MCDOT is exploring the use of a raised curb to separate the bikeway from traffic.
The project also includes the design of a secure bike parking facility in the base of Garage 5, on the southeast corner of Dixon Ave and Bonifant Street. This facility will allow secure access for people to park their bikes while visiting Silver Spring or commuting to Metro. It will be similar to existing “bike and ride” facilities at College Park and Wiehle-Reston East metro stations.
