Mobile Crane Permits Permit & Inspection Process
A Mobile Crane Permit is required for operation of any type of mobile crane within a Montgomery County right of way. This includes assembling and disassembling a crane tower; installation and removal of HVAC units on building rooftops; moving furniture, construction material or equipment by a mobile crane operation from outside and above a building. The permit conditions ensure the work is performed in a safe manner and that the right-of-way is properly restored.
Mobile Crane Submittal Requirements

If the proposed location is a State of Maryland or another municipality roadway, you must obtain a permit from that jurisdiction.

Applicants should submit the approved TCP as part of the mobile crane permit application to DPS. For more information on traffic control plan requirements, please visit the Montgomery County Department of Transportation.
Applicants must submit a traffic control plan, along with a crane package to include crane details, date(s) of operation, location and right of way application number. Please follow the Mobile Crane Submittal Requirements
Once submitted to DPS, mobile crane permits are generally issued within 2 – 3 weeks depending on staff workload.
