Stump Removal Permit and Inspection Process
Tree stumps are often not removed immediately when a roadside tree is removed by a utility company or the Montgomery County Department of Transportation (DOT). If a homeowner wishes to remove a roadside tree stump prior to DOT’s scheduled removal, a permit is required.
If the proposed stump removal is in a state or municipal right of way, you must obtain a permit from that jurisdiction.
A completed application for work in the public right of way is required along with plans showing the stump location(s) and the approximate size/diameter of each stump. There is no permit fee or bond requirement.
Applications will typically be reviewed within 2 – 3 weeks from submittal depending on staff workload. Timing of final approval is dependent on successful compliance with submittal requirements.
