Community Support Network for People with Disabilities (CSN) provides services that enable individuals to remain in their home or in the least restrictive environment and provides general support, guidance, and assistance to clients with developmental disabilities and their families.

  • This program area coordinates and monitors services and supports (including crisis management, intervention, and school-to-work transition assistance) to people with developmental disabilities eligible to receive services through the State Developmental Disabilities Administration (Coordination of Community Services Program)
  • Provides service coordination to eligible young people funded under the Maryland Home and Community Based Services Waiver for Children (ages 0-21) with Autism Spectrum Disorder (Autism Waiver Program)
  • And provides financial assistance to State-funded providers who serve adults with developmental disabilities.

Community Support Network Programs

  • The  My Turn program provides support and assistance to families with children ages three to thirteen who have developmental disabilities and are not connected with State of Maryland resources. Services include outreach, assistance with summer camp placements and other programmatic and financial assistance.
  • CSN also conducts  site visits to group homes that serve developmentally disabled clients in the County and monitors contracts that provide services to people with various disabilities including visual and hearing impairments.
  • CSN Autism Waiver staff coordinate with Montgomery County Public Schools staff and monitor services for children (ages 0 - 21) in the program who have been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Through the Autism Waiver Program, students and families receive respite care, environmental accessibility adaptations, family training, supported adult life planning, and intensive individual support services in the home and community, therapeutic integration service, service coordination and, in some cases, residential habilitation.
  • The Coordination of Community Services (CCS)  program is one of six agencies in the County that provides case management services to eligible school to work transition students and adults people who have developmental disabilities and are eligible for the Maryland DDA Home and Community Based Services (HCBS) Waiver services. 
  • Respite Services provides short-term temporary relief to unpaid live-in caregivers/families who are providing full-time care to children with severe medical conditions, children/adults with disabilities, or frail seniors. Care is provided by trained, certified care workers in the family’s home or in a respite care facility. Services provided by The Arc through a county contract.
  • CSN provides County  financial assistance to State-funded providers who serve adults with developmental disabilities.

Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Commission

The Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Commission includes 25 members, including individuals from the intellectual and developmental disability community, service providers and service agencies, and the Commission on People with Disabilities, who will be focusing on promoting direct communication among families, support staff, private and public organizations and the public about programs and services for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The commission will also provide educational programs, identify current gaps in services and provide advice and recommendations on best practices to the County and the County Executive.
