The FareShare Program encourages the use of transit and vanpooling by employees working in Montgomery County by matching employer contributions.
Employees benefit from FareShare:
- Save money on commuting by receiving transit subsidies up to $315 to help pay your commuting costs tax free beginning January 1, 2024
- Montgomery County will reimburse your employer up to the maximum of $315 less the employer contribution for using the FareShare Program
- Help reduce traffic congestion and pollution
Employees Don’t Have to Live in Montgomery County to Participate
You can live anywhere and still be eligible for cost savings for transit trips, benefits for bikers and walkers, telework options, and tax incentives – as long as your employer is in Montgomery County.

If you use mass transit, carpool, vanpool, bicycle, or walk to work at least twice a week, you are eligible for the Guaranteed Ride Home (GRH) program, which offers you a free ride home by taxi, rental car, bus, or train, up to six (6) times a year when unexpected personal emergencies or unscheduled overtime arise. Register with Commuter Connections, Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments or call 1-800-745-RIDE (7433).
