Dale Drive Shared Use Path and Safety Improvements

This project provides for the design and construction of a new eight-foot wide shared use path approximately 1 mile of length along the north side of Dale Drive from Georgia Avenue (MD 97) to Colesville Road (US 29). The project also provides minor intersection safety improvements within the project limits to improve existing sight distance and crosswalks.

January 2024 Updates

Revised 90% Design Plan

Since the previous 90% design milestone of the Dale Drive Shared Use Path & Safety Improvements project, the project team has been working on resolving impacts to many utility lines (both underground and overhead utilities), mainly located around Grace Church Road and the Crosby Road area. After extensive coordination with various utility companies and design iterations, as well as incorporating feedback from residents, the previous 90% design has been adjusted, and the design plan has been revised.  The revised detailed engineering plans can now be found on the project website under the Project Documents tab. Feel free to download the file and review the latest design.

You can also visit the following interactive web application for a more user-friendly way to look at the latest design, which allows users to zoom in and out to look at this project closely. Please note that this application is for informational purposes only, as it utilizes geospatial data and can only show approximate locations of data. For the most accurate information on the project design, please refer to the design plans instead.

November 2021 Updates

Collecting Comments and Written Testimony Through December 1, 2021

The Dale Drive Shared Use Path & Safety Improvements project has reached 70% design milestone, and a virtual public hearing was held on Wednesday, November 17, 2021 at 7:00pm. The project team presented the 70% design, project costs and schedule, as well as collected verbal testimony from community members and answered questions about the project.

To access the public hearing recording, please visit the recording link under the “Project Documents” tab for the 2021 November Public Hearing.

Public input is key to the success of a capital improvement project as it helps us to better understand the needs and concerns of the community. Your input is important to us! Through December 1, 2021, MCDOT will continue to collect comments and written testimony regarding to the project. All comments and testimony must be received by the close of this hearing record on December 1, 2021 at 7:00pm.

February 2021 Updates

Final Design Kickoff

The Dale Drive Share Used Path and Safety Improvement Project (used to known as the Dale Drive Pedestrian Facility Improvement Project – Facility Planning Study) was approved and funded in the Montgomery County Capital Improvements Program (CIP) by the County Council to begin the final design phase in FY 21.

The project team has kicked off the final design phase in January 2021. The first task for this phase is to survey additional field data, such as underground utilities, property boundaries, tree inventory, etc. throughout the project limits, in order to assist accurate engineering design and avoid critical impacts. There might be colorful ribbons and/or flags within the immediate vicinity of Dale Drive, and we ask that they are to be left alone as these ribbons/flags are crucial for the survey crew to collect the field data.

The next step of the project is the 70% design milestone and holding a public hearing for the project, and we are anticipating this milestone to happen by the end of this year. At which we will be notifying the community with meeting details.
