Long Driveway Internet Grant Program

Get High-Speed Internet to your home with
help from the Long Driveway Internet Grant Program!

Do you live in a hard-to-reach area and need reliable high-speed internet? Do you have a home or business set far back from the road that makes it expensive to get internet? Help is here! The State of Maryland is offering a special grant to help bring broadband service to homes like yours. The Maryland Home Stretch – Difficult to Serve Properties Program (or Long Driveway Internet program as we’re calling it) works with local counties to help cover the cost of installing internet in areas where it can be expensive.

STEP 1:
Complete the grant submission form here. You must be in an area served by Comcast and your home or business must be more than 300 feet from the road (there is no installation charge to extend facilities 300 feet in Montgomery County).

STEP 2:
The County will request a cost estimate from Comcast (Verizon declined to participate in this program). The State grant will cover the first two-thirds of the cost, up to $8,000. Comcast will cover the remaining one-third, up to $4,000. If the total cost is higher than $12,000, the resident must agree to pay the difference.

STEP 3:
Montgomery County will provide the cost estimate and an agreement to the resident. The resident must return the signed agreement and agree to pay any contribution, if required, within 30 days of signing the agreement. Comcast will complete construction within 90 days after receiving all necessary documents and payment from the resident if required.

Deadline:  March 16, 2025
You must complete the form by March 16, 2025 to be included in the grant program but you may opt out later.  The County will developed cost estimates based on all addresses received and determine how much grant funding is needed.  You will have an opportunity to make a final decision whether to proceed after the cost estimate is completed.

The County reserves the right to exclude any address not submitted by March 16, 2025 from participation in the grant program.  The County will notify the State at the end of March 2025 if there will be unused funds and these unused funds will be redistributed to other counties in Maryland.

The County’s goal is to identify locations to serve as soon as possible and work to have projects completed in 2025.  All grant funds must be spent by June 2026.

*To be eligible, you may not be a current Comcast Xfinity or Verizon FiOS subscriber.
