Get High-Speed Internet to Your Home with
Help from the Long Driveway Internet Program!
Do you live in a hard-to-reach area and need reliable high-speed internet? Do you have a home or business set far back from the road that makes it expensive to get internet? Help is here! The State of Maryland is offering a special grant to help bring broadband service to homes like yours. The Maryland Home Stretch – Difficult to Serve Properties Program (or Long Driveway Internet program as we’re calling it) works with local counties to help cover the cost of installing internet in areas where it can be expensive.
- STEP 1: Complete the form here. You must be in an area served by Comcast and your home or business must be more than 300 feet from the road (there is no installation charge to extend facilities 300 feet in Montgomery County).
- STEP 2: The County will request a cost estimate from Comcast (Verizon declined to participate in this program). The State grant will cover the first two-thirds of the cost, up to $8,000. Comcast will cover the remaining one-third, up to $4,000. If the total cost is higher than $12,000, the resident must agree to pay the difference.
- STEP 3: Montgomery County will provide the cost estimate and an agreement (see sample here) to the resident. The resident must return the signed agreement and agree to pay any contribution, if required, within 30 days of signing the agreement. Comcast will complete construction within 90 days after receiving all necessary documents and payment from the resident if required.
DEADLINE: Submissions will be reviewed and approved in three groups, or until the $1.1 million in available funds are fully committed. The submission deadlines are:
- Monday, December 2, 2024
- Monday, February 3, 2025
- Monday, May 5, 2025
