On Saturday, September 21, 2024, at approximately 7:49 p.m., 4th District officers responded to the 3400 block of Janet Road for the report of an assault in progress.
Upon arrival, a 4th District officer encountered an adult male armed with a weapon. The officer gave multiple commands, but the individual did not comply and approached the officer and the victims he allegedly assaulted earlier. The officer subsequently discharged his service weapon striking the subject. Officers attempted life-saving measures but the subject was declared deceased on the scene.
In accordance with Maryland law, the investigation into the shooting will be handled by the Maryland Attorney General’s Independent Investigations Division (IID). The IID has made the full Body Worn camera video available for public viewing:

The Patrol Services Bureau, the most prominent and visible bureau in the Police Department, oversees the majority of the Department’s uniformed officers on patrol. The Patrol Services Bureau is divided into six police districts.
