The medical staff at the Montgomery County Department of Correction and Rehabilitation (DOCR) provide medical care and services to all incarcerated individuals in compliance with recognized health care, legal, and correctional standards. The facilities are accredited by the Maryland Commission on Correctional Standards (MCCS), and the American Correctional Association (ACA).

Detention Services (MCDC and MCCF) are staffed with nurses 24 hours per day and, 7 days per week. Community Corrections (PRC) is staffed with a nurse 8 hours per day Monday – Friday. Physicians and nurse practitioners provide on-site evaluation and treatment of acute and chronic medical and mental health conditions. Incarcerated individuals receive a medical screening upon intake and are required to have a physical examination and Tuberculosis (Tb) test shortly after entering the facilities within 14 days of entry into custody; physical examination and Tb tests are repeated annually, or when medically necessary. Tb testing is conducted by a Health and Human Services Tuberculosis Control Nurse. Health department physicians and nurses also assist in infectious disease identification, management, and treatment.

Services provided include, but are not limited to, medication administration, sick calls, intravenous therapy, dental care, physical therapy, optometry, laboratory, radiation (x-ray), specialized chronic care clinics and dialyses. All of these services, in addition to many others, occur within MCDOCR facilities. Referrals to services are afforded to those individuals whose healthcare needs exceed available resources within MCDOCR facilities.
