Domestic Violence: Frequently Asked Questions


 

1. Who is eligible to visit the Family Justice Center (FJC) ? 
Anyone who lives or works in Montgomery County and is experiencing or has experienced domestic violence is eligible to receive services. Children are welcome to use the child-friendly environment while their parent is receiving services.

2. Do I need an appointment? 
No. You can walk in between 8:30 am - 5 pm, M-F, except for County holidays and closures.

3. Where can I park? 
There is a free visitor parking garage in the building on the Jefferson Street side and there is metered street parking.

4. Can I bring my children with me? 
Yes. We have a specially designed playroom for children.

5. May I bring a friend for support?
Yes. However when you speak to one of the professional staff, your friend may be asked to wait in one of the waiting areas.

6. Will it cost me anything for legal services?
No. There are no fees for services at the Montgomery County FJC.

7. Can I get a Protective Order at the FJC?
Yes. A staff member will also be happy to assist you in completing the paperwork and facilitate the video link to the courts.

8. Can I return for additional services? 
Yes. We encourage you to take advantage of all appropriate services.
