Major Crimes Division


The Major Crimes Division is responsible for the prosecution of indicted felonies in the Circuit Court. Types of cases handled include distribution, manufacture, and possession with the intent to distribute of controlled dangerous substances; burglaries; first degree assault; and illegal possession of guns.

Major Crimes Division is charged with prosecuting the most violent crimes committed in the County, as well as dangerous career criminals that continue to commit violent crimes. These cases include serious armed robberies, home invasions, attempted murders and homicides that are not gang or family violence-related. Major Crimes Division is staffed by assistant state’s attorneys who all have significant experience prosecuting violent crimes and career criminals. The Division is led by Chief prosecutor Marybeth Ayres and Deputy Chief Donna Fenton, whom both have many years of experience trying first degree murder cases as well as a wide variety of violent felony cases.
