Improving Pedestrian Networks and Connectivity
MCDOT’s mission is to make pedestrian and traffic safety a priority for county residents through the introduction of several initiatives that educate and prepare members of the Montgomery County community for safe travel. aThe Pedestrian Safety Initiative summarizes a series of strategies to improve pedestrian safety in areas including: targeting high-risk traffic areas, developing and improving bike routes, improving sidewalks and intersections, upgrading traffic signals and signage, and enhancing infrastructure associated with pedestrian crossing.

How We Work with VisionZero
Vision Zero roadway safety program seeks to eliminate and reduce pedestrian-related collisions and fatalities to zero (0), by 2030. The program focuses on introducing a safe systems approach to education and training, improving the engineering of infrastructure for high-injury areas, maintenance of quick-action traffic incident response, traffic safety enforcement, and state policy safety plans.
