Library Page Positions

Library pages shelve materials and must be able to move a 60-70 pound book cart, reach, stoop, and bend. Positions are year around, 10 to 19 hours per week, Sunday through Saturday.

There are also Library Page positions available at Collection Management in Gaithersburg, where work primarily involves loading and unloading large bins of materials to be distributed to the library branches. Collection Management is our central sorting facility and is closed to the public.

These are non-merit positions.

Effective 6/18/2023, the hourly wage is $17.20

You must be at least 14 years old to apply to be a library page.

How to Apply

You must apply online. Here are the steps:

  1. Complete the online application and upload resume on the Montgomery County Government Careers website. Failure to upload a resume will result in the application being marked "Not Qualified." Select Search Jobs and look for the Library Page position under the category Temporary/Seasonal/Substitute.
  2. Once you have applied, your account will include the current Library Page position under your "Jobs Applied For" section. Print out a copy of your account that includes your name and the positions that you applied for which must include the current Library Page position, and bring it with you to the page assessment exercise.
  3. Prepare for your in-person written assessment exercise, which checks your understanding of library shelving systems. Practice with our sample assessment exercise. You MUST have submitted an application online in order to take the assessment exercise. You can take the assessment at any branch that has an exercise scheduled, regardless of where you wish to work. You may only take the Page assessment one time per recruitment.
  4. Bring with you to the assessment exercise:
    • a print-out of your Jobs Applied For, including your name and the current Library Page position
    • a photo ID
  5. If you need an accommodation to take the assessment exercise at a given branch, please contact the Office of Human Resources via email at special.accommodations@montgomerycountymd.gov as soon as possible but at least three days prior to the scheduled assessment exercise. Individual determinations on requests for reasonable accommodation will be made in accordance with all applicable laws.

Note: You are eligible to apply and take the assessment exercise one time per requisition IRC. If you are not successful on the assessment, you will need to wait until the next requisition is posted to reapply and take the assessment exercise.
