Leading up to the closure in January 2025, the library team focused on relocating services, setting up alternatives for community programs like Storytime, and coordinating with nearby library locations to minimize disruptions to services. These efforts helped ensure that patrons will still have access to library resources during the closure.
By March 2024, the renovation design was finalized, ensuring that the updated layout would significantly enhance accessibility and functionality. With major improvements planned, including the replacement of windows, the installation of a new all-gender restroom, and HVAC updates, the project is set to deliver a modern, fully accessible space that will serve the community for years to come.
In March 2023, the renovation design phase officially kicked off, bringing together architects, engineers, and community stakeholders to develop plans that reflect the needs of the Damascus community. The new designs include upgrades to flooring, painting, furniture, and the creation of new collaborative spaces to improve the overall experience for visitors.
In 2021, a facility assessment was completed for the Damascus Library, marking the official start of its renovation journey. This assessment identified key areas in need of improvement to enhance both the library and the senior center spaces, ensuring they are accessible and functional for all visitors. The project aimed at addressing these needs and modernizing the building for future generations.
