If you are a member of the public who needs a sign language interpreter, CART services or assistive listening device in order to participate in a County meeting, event or other activity, requests should be made to the program or department sponsoring the event (see the advertisement for the event for information) or to the ADA Compliance Team ( [email protected]; 240-777-6197) with as much notice as possible (a lead time of at least 3 business days will help have sufficient time to fulfill your request).
If you are a County employee who wants to arrange for a sign language interpreter, CART services or the use of an assistive listening device for a meeting, special event or other interaction with the public, information is available on the County’s SharePoint intranet site LINK TO SHAREPOINT. In stating your complaint, be sure to mention the County Government building, program, or service where the problem is, and contact the ADA Compliance Team ( [email protected]; 240-777-6197).

Montgomery County has adopted an internal grievance/complaint procedure providing for prompt and equitable resolution of complaints alleging any action prohibited by the U.S. Department of Justice regulations implementing Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Title II states, in part, that "no otherwise qualified disabled individual shall, solely by reason of such disability, be excluded from the participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination" in programs or activities sponsored by a public entity.

In Montgomery County not all roadways are owned or maintained by MCDOT. Roads and streets that are identified by a route number, such as Rt. 355 (Wisconsin Avenue or Rockville Pike), Rt. 97 (Georgia Avenue), and Rt. 410 (East West Highway) are owned and maintained by the Maryland State Highway Administration. Most municipalities such as the City of Rockville and the City of Gaithersburg maintain their own roadways.

- Fire Safety for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Individuals - Information including an application for Visual Smoke Detectors for low income homeowners is available at: http://www.montgomerycountymd.gov/mcfrs-info/tips/seniors/visualsmokealarms.html. Maryland Public Safety Article 9-102 (b)(6) requires landlords to provide visual smoke alarms for tenants when requested and at no additional cost for the tenant.
