Recreation
Montgomery County Recreation (MCR) is dedicated to providing quality recreation programs that serve the needs of the Montgomery County community. MCR manages 34 facilities including community and neighborhood recreation centers, senior centers, and indoor and outdoor aquatic facilities, and provides thousands of programs such as out-of-school activities, aquatics, classes, youth and adult sports programs and leagues, senior programs, and therapeutic recreation that enhance the quality of life for participants of all ages, cultures, and abilities.
MCR is committed to the spirit and compliance of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and encourages the participation of individuals with disabilities in all of their programs and services. Inclusion support is provided, upon request, to ensure that reasonable accommodations are provided for all MCR programs. Examples of these services may include adapted equipment, sign language interpreters, assistive listening devices, Braille documents, program modifications or mainstream companions. Mainstream companions are trained volunteers who provide additional assistance for individuals with disabilities in order to help facilitate the individual’s participation in a program or activity.
Therapeutic Recreation (TR) programs are designed to serve individuals with disabilities to assist individuals who may have difficulty accessing other MCRD programs and services. TR programs include classes such as aquatics, dance, fitness and exercise and sports leagues such as the Miracle League. There is year-round social programming for adults that includes special events, trips and tours, and weekend Adult Social Clubs. Summer programming is available to serve youth during the out-of-school times. The activities are planned to meet the interests of participants with appropriate participant-to-staff ratios.
