Old Georgetown Road - PRSA
In May 2012, Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT), in partnership with Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA), conducted a pedestrian road safety audit (PRSA) along Old Georgetown Road between Wisconsin Avenue and Cordell Avenue in Bethesda, Maryland. This stretch of roadway was identified as one of Montgomery County’s High Incidence Areas (HIA) for pedestrian and bicyclist collisions. Regional partners from Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration and the City of Laurel participated in this two day audit.
This segment of Old Georgetown Road is prominent due to heavy pedestrian activity generated by commercial and residential land use, the nearby Bethesda Metrorail Station, and students from the nearby elementary and high school.
Since the audit was conducted, MCDOT and the MDOT SHA have focused on improving: lighting, bicycle, signal timings, and ADA related improvements.
