Don’t Be Distracted Contest

Attention Montgomery County Public School Students!

Create a 30-60 second public service announcement (PSA) video or artwork piece about why you shouldn’t walk or drive distracted and you could win $500 for college tuition or a $100 Chick-Fil-A or Chipotle gift card!

Why:

A Safe Kids study showed that 1 in 4 high school students and 1 in 6 middle school students walk distracted. These distractions were most often texting or wearing headphones. Research also indicates that for teen drivers, a single glance off the road for two or more seconds increases the risk of a crash or near crash by almost four times. When you are distracted while walking or driving, you are putting yourself and those around you in danger. We are asking you and your friends to help us remind students and parents to do the right thing.

How:

Create a 30-60 second public service announcement (PSA) video or artwork about one or both of the following topics:

  1. Tell your peers the importance of not walking or driving distracted.
  2. Tell adults the importance of not being distracted while driving, especially in school zones.

Example Distractions:

  • Texting and driving
  • Texting and walking
  • Talking on the phone and not using a hands free device
  • Eating and driving
  • Putting on make up or shaving while driving
  • Walking with headphones on
