Recertification Requirements

Within your 3 year period, EMTs must meet the following state required training to recertify as a Maryland EMT. The MCFRS EMT Recertification Process is comprised of 2 separate courses. The courses can be completed in any order, there is no requirement to complete both in the same month or even the same year.

Courses

• 12 Hours Online

  Course content provided by Fire Rescue 1 Academy.

  No Online course sessions scheduled for January, June, July and August annually.

  Must complete all sections within assigned calendar month to receive credit.

  State required content includes:

  • 4 hours of Medical
  • 4 hours of Trauma
  • 4 hours Local Option

• 12 Hours Skills

  Instructor lead

  ATTENDANCE REQUIRED FOR ALL SESSIONS

  Face-to-Face in person at the Training Academy

  Must have current valid Maryland EMT card or MIEMSS approved Extension, Reciprocity or Reinstatement Letter for Day 1 Session 1

  Course Hours (schedule):

  • Shift Classes (Tuesday and Friday of same week)
    1. Tuesday: Day 1
       1. Session 1 0800-1100 hours
       2. Session 2 1200-1500 hours
    2. Friday: Day 2
       3. Session 3 0800-1100 hours
       4. Session 4 1200-1500 hours
  • Weekend ONLY classes (Saturday & Sunday)
    1. Saturday: Day 1
       1. Session 1 0900-1200 hours
       2. Session 2 1300-1600 hours
    2. Sunday: Day 2
       3. Session 3 0900-1200 hours
       4. Session 4 1300-1600 hours
  • Night ONLY classes (Monday & Thursday)
    1. Monday: Day 1
       1. Session 1 1900-2200 hours
    2. Thursday: Day 2
       2. Session 2 1900-2200 hours
    3. Monday: Day 3
       3. Session 3 1900-2200 hours
    4. Thursday: Day 4
       4. Session 4 1900-2200 hours

  MIEMSS Protocol Exam:
  70% minimum passing score

12 Hours Online

All individuals that are pre-registered are notified the first of the month by Fire Rescue 1 Academy for the selected session with Login information.
