Instructor Recertification Process
Academy Classes

All MICRB Instructor Candidates and Instructors seeking Recertification are solely responsible for filling out the paperwork, in its entirety, and attaching all required documentation (including the information at the top of page 2 of your packet).

We will only accept electronic copies.

Below are the links to all forms, also located on the MICRB section of MFRI's website.

MICRB Instructor Recertification

All supporting documents must be submitted – via email – as 1 single attachment to both Captain Shelley Wheeler and Cecilia Johnson.

Be sure to enter your teaching hours and class name (no log number is required). All PDI must be listed with the MICRB number [(i.e.) MICRB/304: Leveraging Case Studies for Enhanced Learning].

Also, attach completion Professional Development for Instructors (PDI) documentation (PDI Certificate, PCAP, or MFRI Transcript)

In summary, your document (1 single attachment) should include the following:

  1. Application (PDF)

    Completely Filled-out, Signed and Dated

    • Information at the top of page 2
    • Class name
    • Teaching hours
    • PDI name and MICRB number
  2. Evaluation (PDF)

    Need an Instructor Evaluator? Coordinate directly to schedule your Evaluator

  3. PDI Documentation – PDI Certificate, PCAP, or MFRI Transcript

Recertification cycles are every three years and require the following:

  • 60 hours of teaching
  • 12 hours of Professional Development for Instructors (PDI)
  • Instructor Evaluation

MICRB Instructor Candidate

  • Completion of Instructor 1 and Instructor 2. Instructor 2 is accepted if:
    1. Within 5 years of your application.
    2. If more than 5 years but less than 10 years, you must complete 12 hours of PDI.
    3. If over 10 years you must retake the course or contact MFRI to challenge the course.
  • 14 hours of skills (see instructor manual for details)
  • Skills must be completed before practice teaching hours can be used as documentation
  • 60 hours of practice teaching (any discipline)
  • Two Instructor Evaluations (classes must be at least 3 hours)

Instructor Evaluator

Application for initial evaluator status only (PDF)

Initial Recertification requires that you have been an Instructor for one Recertification cycle – 3 years and an 8 hour evaluator class

  • 60 hours of teaching
  • 12 hours of PDI
  • Instructor evaluation (teaching)
  • Second evaluation as an evaluator (evaluating another Instructor)

Instructor Trainer

Initial Certification requires consultation with Program Coordinator

  • 60 hours of teaching
  • 12 hours of PDI
  • Instructor evaluation (must be evaluated by another instructor trainer)

Re-entry

Reentry must happen no more than three years after your certification expiration date

  • Submit reentry application (PDF) (application must be approved before teaching begins)
  • 60 hours of teaching
  • 12 hours of PDI
  • Instructor evaluation (must be evaluated by another instructor trainer)
