    Curbside Pickup Zones

    MCDOT Division of Parking Management has added additional “No Parking” zones. These zones are being added to facilitate curbside restaurants, retail and other uses. Currently, 44 temporary “Curbside Pickup” zones have been established in Pike and Rose area of North Bethesda, Silver Spring, Bethesda, and Wheaton.

    MCDOT Launches ‘Shared Streets’ Initiative to Support Safe Outdoor Activity and Speed Economic Recovery

    MCDOT has launched its new “Shared Streets” program to support safe, physically distanced activity as the County enters Phase I of recovery from the COVID-19 health crisis. The initiative will involve looking for temporary ways to modify existing uses of County sidewalks, roads, on-street parking and parking lots to provide extra space residents and businesses could use to comply with Centers for Disease Control (CDC) spacing guidelines.

    MCDOT Announces Notice of Intent to Begin Negotiations for the Redevelopment of Two Public Parking Lots in Bethesda

    MCDOT has published a Notice of Intent to begin negotiations for the redevelopment of Public Parking Lots 10 and 24 in Bethesda. Any parties wishing to provide comments or other information to MCDOT about development of these parcels must contact MCDOT in writing by 5:00PM on June 5, 2020.

    Temporary Closure of Garage 31 Entrance

    A contractor is working at Capital Crescent Garage (Garage 31) to remove and replace the trench drain system within the garage at gates and entrances. Currently the Bethesda Avenue entrance is close to facilitate the ongoing work as mentioned and customers are rerouted to enter and exit the facility from the Woodmont entrance. Work at Bethesda entrance is expected to be completed by 6/5/2020 or before. Hence, similar work will commence at the Woodmont entrance when the Bethesda entrance is reopened.

    Bethesda Ave Entrance Trench Drain Replacement is scheduled from May 22 to June 5, 2020.

    MobileNOW! Ceases Operation

    Effective Monday, May 18, 2020, MobileNOW!, ceased operations. MobileNow! will no longer be an option for parking payments at County-owned, on-street meters, parking garages or lots. Parkmobile remains available at all existing county-operated parking locations.

    Temporary work at Cheltenham Garage (Garage 42)

    Beginning Monday, May 11, 2020, an underground drain line beneath the Cheltenham entrance of Garage 42 will be repaired. The duration of the work will be between three to five days. Only one lane will be closed during work hours (7:30 am – 3:30 pm). During non-work hours both lanes will be open. No other garage functions will be impacted

    Bonifant Street access to Garage 5 to temporarily close.

    Beginning on or about May 11, 2020, the Bonifant Street entrance and exit to the Bonifant-Dixon Garage (Garage 5) will be closed for approximately 18 months due to ongoing Purple Line construction. The Dixon Avenue entrance and exit will remain open at all times.

    Partial Temporary Closure of Garage 55

    Approximately 80 spaces of the Bonifant - Dixon Garage (Garage 55) on Levels 1 and 2 will be closed for six weeks. The partial closure is needed for contractors to perform traffic membrane maintenance work. The spaces are expected to reopen in mid- to late-May.

    Permit Sales locations Hours of Operation Change

    Effective Monday, April 6th, Parking Permit Sales Stores at 801 Ellsworth Drive, Silver Spring, MD and 4720 Cheltenham Drive, Bethesda, MD will have the following hours of operation; 7:30 am to 4:00 pm Tuesdays and Fridays. Over-the-Counter sales of permits, payment of citations, and all other services may take place on these days.

    Online and mail-in services continue to be available to serve the needs of our community and mobility customers who do not wish to or cannot visit the stores in person. Customers can pay a parking citation or buy a parking permit online.

    MCDOT Changes to Parking Restrictions Help to Support More than 50 Silver Spring Restaurants Open for Curbside Pickup, Takeout and Delivery During COVID-19 Health Crisis

    MCDOT, in an effort to support restaurants that will depend on carryout orders, curbside pickup and deliveries during the COVID-19 emergency—and to also help the residents that will be using those services—last week announced that it has established “No Parking” zones in Parking Lot District areas with high concentrations of restaurants. Those zones will prevent long-term parking in spots in front of the establishment while allowing temporary “standing parking” of 15 minutes or less.

    MCDOT Designates Free Temporary Parking at Garages 5/55 and 36 and Lot 17

    MCDOT Division of Parking Management announced that it has established free parking in two County-owned parking garages and one lot. As the County requests residents to continue to avoid unnecessary travel, the Bonifant/Dixon Garage in Silver Spring, the Auburn/Del Ray Garage in Bethesda and the Price-Fern Lot in Wheaton will temporarily not require payment as residents seek parking solutions to minimize the financial impacts of the COVID-19 emergency.

    Temporary Closure of Garage 7 Exit

    Beginning on or about Thursday, April 2nd, one exit lane of Garage 7 (Cameron - Second Street Garage) on the Cameron Street side will be closed for necessary plumbing repair activity. The other exit lane will remain open at all times. The project is expected to be completed within two weeks.

    Effective Wednesday, March 25th, Parking Permit Sales locations at 801 Ellsworth Drive, Silver Spring, MD and 4720 Cheltenham Drive, Bethesda, MD and Parking Citation Services call center will re-open for normal operations.

    Temporary Closure of Garage 57 Entrance

    The Bethesda Avenue entrance to Bethesda Elm Garage (Garage 57) will be closed for repairs from March 23rd through March 28th. Patrons should use the Elm Street entrance during this closure.

    The Elm Street Entrance to Garage 57 will be closed for repairs from March 30th through April 4th. Patrons should use the Bethesda Avenue entrance during this closure.

    MCDOT Updates Parking Restriction Status During the COVID-19 Health Crisis

    MCDOT will continue to enforce most parking rules and regulations during the COVID-19 health crisis, with some exceptions. Residents should follow normal legal practices when parking. Restricted area parking violations, disabled parking violations and safety-related violations will be strictly enforced to prioritize public safety.

    One modification is parking meter enforcement that has been relaxed in areas where businesses remain open for quick pickups—such as restaurants, pharmacies and food stores.

    MCDOT Temporarily Suspends Enforcement in Residential Parking Permit (RPP) zones

    MCDOT Division of Parking Management has suspended enforcement because of school closures, those who have been designated to telework or those who cannot work due to business closures affected by the declared state of emergency. Enforcement will resume once the state of emergency or any other restrictions have been lifted.

  • Meter Modernization

    Smart meters added to several lots

    MCDOT Division of Parking Management recently upgraded the payment infrastructure in four lots enabling the meters to accept credit cards. The lots with new smart meters include Lot 8 (St. Elmo Avenue Lot) and Lot 28 (Cordell Avenue Lot) in Bethesda plus Lot 18 (Gist & Philadelphia Lot) and Lot 38 (Bonifant Street Lot) in Silver Spring. In addition to credit cards, the meters will continue to accept coins and mobile payment.

The session will include a brief presentation on the current fiscal health of the PLD and will provide us the opportunity to gather feedback and suggestions from the local business community and residents to inform recommendations to the County Executive on the FY21 Operating Budget.

  • Meter Modernization

    Bethesda Facility Improvements Phase 1b

    On or about April 2020, Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) will begin modernizing the parking payment system in Waverly Garage (Garage 47) in Bethesda.

    The current single space meters will be removed and replaced with centralized pay stations. The new parking system uses Pay by Space and operates like a single space meter where the customer estimates their time and prepays prior to leaving for their destination.

  • Garage 47 Rehabilitation Project

    Garage 47 Rehabilitation Project

    The Garage 47 project will commence beginning of March 2020. The project duration is 2 years. This project consists of replacing the entire garage concrete decks in all 4 elevated levels of the garage, replacing plumbing and electrical/lighting systems in the garage. This work will be done in phases to enable parking in sections of the garage.

  • Garage 31

    Short-term parking area to be added to Garage 31

    Approximately 60 long-term parking spaces will be converted to 2-hour in the Capital Crescent Parking Garage (Garage 31) on or about January 31, 2020. The short-term parking will be located on Level G1 on the first ramp as you enter the facility.

  • Holiday Schedule

    Parking at public garages, lots, curbside meters free on County observed holidays

    On-street parking meters or facilities do not require payment on Christmas and New Year's Day.
